On May 4, 1919, the New York Tribune described the scene at the Polo Grounds’ first Sunday game: “Up to yesterday, baseball in greater New York was for the semi-idle. . Yesterday those bleachers teemed with life. The men from the docks and the factories came and they brought their wives and children. ”23 On May 14, 1920, the Giants informed the Yankees that they would not renew their lease after this season. With such short notice, there was no way the Yankees could find a location and build in time for the 1921 season.
